Regatta watches: It began in 1985 – with the Citizen “Wind Jack”
The story of Citizen regatta watches began in 1985 with the introduction of the "Wind Jack". Its designer, himself a sailor, incorporated his experience from international regattas into the development of this first yacht and sailing watch.
Over the past 40 years, Citizen has continuously refined these timepieces. With the new Promaster Wave Tracker, the Japanese company continues this tradition in the form of a combination watch with an analog-digital display. This includes, among other things, a modern and high-resolution MIP (Memory in Pixel) display.
Race mode, tides, slide rule bezel and more
The new Wave Tracker from the Promaster Marine series boasts a wide range of practical functions essential for regatta sailing. Thanks to the newly developed U812 caliber, the watch offers both a race mode and a tide graph, opening up new possibilities in regatta sailing and maritime applications.
The race mode and tide indicator assist the skipper with timekeeping and other essential onboard tasks. The race mode features a regatta timer that counts down to the start and automatically switches to timing mode after the starting signal.
This means the watch provides all the important information at every stage of the race – from the tactically important pre-start phase to the finish line.
The rotating bezel functions as a slide rule for determining angles and courses. Furthermore, it can be used to calculate the optimal sailing course (points of sail) based on the wind direction.
In tide mode (Tide Graph), the watch calculates the water level for a selected location and displays the hourly forecasts in a graph. In addition to high and low tide times, changes in tidal direction can also be shown.
