Where conscious lifestyle and tropical ease merge

Nestled among palm trees, the sound of waves and fragrant tropical trees, a special place is emerging in southern Sri Lanka: The Kelani Retreat combines conscious travel, mindful living and the power of community.

With handcrafted furniture, lovingly designed rooms and a 3000 m² garden, Kelani creates space for genuine connection – to oneself, to others and to nature.

In the small coastal town of Madiha, just a few minutes from the sea, founders Kevin Oberthür and Daniel Tuckermann have created a place with the Kelani Retreat that is far more than just accommodation.

It is a refuge for people seeking deceleration, inspiration, and authentic encounters. Under the motto "Grow. Connect. Recharge.", Kelani unites Yoga, Surfing, meditation and community combine to create a harmonious overall experience.

The rooms are furnished with handcrafted furniture made from natural materials and decorated with great care. Designed with meticulous attention to detail – each one tells its own story A short story of peace and warmth.

A 3000 square meter tropical garden spreads around the house: mango and banana trees provide shade, colorful flowers frame yoga sessions, and in the evening an atmosphere is created around the communal table that is reminiscent of friends, not guests.

What makes Kelani special is its close collaboration with locals. Local knowledge is incorporated into everything from construction and furniture production to the kitchen. Furthermore, the retreat supports social and environmental projects in the region to actively promote sustainable tourism.

This creates a place where where people from all over the world meet – with the shared goal of living more mindfully and rediscovering the beauty of simplicity.
